You haven’t long
to love this world
to claim the blood washing
the awakening sky
to feel the wren’s song
swelling your open throat
that later will clench to
imagine the bewildered doe
leaving her speckled child
there along the road
where the car struck it.
Now
untangle the tortured
skein of the life you’ve made
this mess
keeping only
those few threads
the first and best
the ones that
wove wonder in the soft skull
that cradled your brain
mute and curious
before it knew
and then forgot
why we wear bodies:
to bear witness
to praise
to grieve
this beauty
this sorrow
what we find
in the space where we leave
each other.
Now
let our complaints
be stilled feeling
time’s patience exhausted
knowing
we haven’t long
to love this world.
for those with a body
a touching reminder 🙂

Amen. It is good that we are reminded of the ephemera.

And good to remember that we ARE ephemera. Thanks for reading, Rafiki!

Amen. This feels timely and breathtaking for me Cate! Beautifully said! and related to conversations I have had recently with others about what it is to be alive. Fully. A heartbreakingly tender love.

Thank you, dear Mary. Coming from you — my gentle, brave friend, a true spiritual warrior — that means a lot.
