Steel string

In the breath of this racing chinook,
in the fire of this brilliant sun,
I want to challenge my maker:
Make of me some thing this pure,
this dazzling,
this fierce.

Consider me a steel string
stretched taut between one birth and death.
Pluck me with your timeless fingers:
Send me sounding through all my days and nights.
Let me know what it is to sing.
